84th Annual Academy | Oscars Awards 2012

Just like that, another year has gone by, and now we are back to one of the most prestigious events in the entertainment industry –The 84th Annual Academy Awards. Watch as some of the brightest stars come together in one magical night, and feast your eyes on what the event has to offer.

The 84th Academy Awards ceremony, which is organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), is a yearly event made to honor the best films of the previous year. The awards night is scheduled on February 26, 2012 , at 4:00 p.m. PST, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. The event will be televised live in the United States via the ABC. The nominees for the Academy Awards were announced by AMPAS last January 24, 2012 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater by Tom Ampas and Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence.

Initially, the Oscar Awards is to be hosted by comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, being hired by the event producer, Brett Ratner. However, Ratner was forced to resign after uttering gay slur during rehearsals. Concurrently, Murphy stepped down as well. As a result, the organizers of the event decided to hire Brian Grazer as its producer and Billy Crystal as the new host. Halle Berry, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, and Bradley Cooper are just some of the stars that has been confirmed to be the presenters of the awards.

The movie Hugo topped the list of nominees with a total of eleven nominations, followed closely by The Artist with a total of ten. Moneyball and War Horse placed third with six nominations apiece. There are other movies and categories ta watch for, each category meant to honor the best in their respective fields. Who these titles and names are remains to be seen, but if there is any indication, the 84th Academy Awards will be a night that will not be forgotten – until next year’s awards, that is.

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards 2012

The stars shone in the spotlight. The music and voices of victory filled the air. This is certainly the scene at one of the most prestigious music awards, the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.

The 54th Grammy Awards were held on February 12, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Grammy Pre-Telecast Ceremony will Stream Live Internationally. This is also the first time that Grammys have decide to have a host and this is in the person of no other than LL Cool J. It is an event wade to honor various artists and music personalities that have made their mark in the industry. This show was broadcast on CBS.

This was also the first time that the awards had fewer categories. Given the consistently low number of submissions for the scratched out or merged categories.

Kanye West was noted for having the most nominations at seven, while Adele, Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars each received six nominations. Lil Wayne, Skrillex, and Radiohead come at third for getting five nominations. The nominations were announced, live on CBS from Nokia Theatre at L.A., last November 30, 2011 on prime-time television as part of "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! – Countdown to Music's Biggest Night". This was a one-hour special broadcast.

Of course, the night was marred by the sudden passing of Whitney Houston. This caused a scramble for producers who are looking for someone to make a tribute performance. The task is now left to Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan. They believe that the multi-awarded Hudson would be able to perform a fitting tribute for the diva. LL Cool J also led the assembly in a prayer in honor of her memory.

As for the awards, Kanye West and the Foo Fighters bagged four awards each, while Scrillex and Adele got three. Adele was notable for her first public performance after her throat surgery. She promptly thanked her doctors upon receiving her awards. Tony Bennett, Cee Lo Green, The Civil Wars, Fergie, Rihanna, Taylor Swift each got two awards in their respective categories.

It surely was quite an event. No doubt that the brightest singers and the most beautiful songs have come together to make a wonderful performance for this year's Grammy Awards.

THE 69TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS: Will “The Artist” Paint A Best Picture?

How can a silent film scream the loudest so the critics could hear it? That is the magic that this magnifique film works to the audience including the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The film is nominated for six awards, including of course, the Best Picture in the upcoming 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Director, Michel Hazanavicius regarded this film as a tribute to Hollywood silent films. The French director even shot inthe 1.33:1 "Academy ratio," just as in silent-film days. He considered it 'perfect for actors' because it gives them 'a presence, a power, a strength. They occupy all the space of the screen.'

This film may be an old fashioned one but it gives the audience a sort of freshness. It's not every day that we get to see a silent film. Aside from the break from all this 3D craze, this film is charming. The scoring is excellent which is a key factor to this movies success. The actors also performed with their faces and gave the viewers words and emotions through their eyes. It is definitely the fore-runner for the Golden Globe Awards race and possibly the other succeeding award shows.

The Artist has already received honors from the Broadcast Film Critics Association winning four awards including the Best Picture and Best Director. Jean Dujardin who played George Valentin also won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival. With Time Magazine calling it “the best movie of the year!” it wont be impossible for the film to win grandslam.

Other major contenders are: “The Descendants”, with five nods including George Clooney being the Best Actor favorite for what was referred to as his career performance. The period piece “The Help” is trailing close with five possible trophies including Best Actress for Viola Davis who played a racially abused woman during the 1960's Missisipi. While “The Ides of March”, “Midnight in Paris” and “Moneyball” garnered four nominations a piece.

Legendary directors, Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen will battle for the Best Director trophy along with Alexander Payne, George Clooney and Michel Hazanavicius. Martin Scorese is nominated for his first ever 3D film, “Hugo” while Woody Allen is nominated for his quirky romantic comedy “Midnight in Paris”.

On the other hand, “American Horror Story”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Boss”, “Game of Thrones” and 'Homeland” all vie for the Best Television Series – Drama. For the Best Television Series – Comedy/Musical the nominees are: “Enlightened”, “Episodes”, “Glee”, “Modern Family” and New Girl.

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC, January 15, 2012. Ricky Gervais will reprise the hosting task despite the controversy of his jokes last year.

17th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards: The Best of the Best Pictures

The Broadcast Film Critics Association is ushering in the awards season with a parade of the most stunning films released on 2011 with the 17th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards. Hugo and The Artist each received a standingovation from the critics garnering 11 nominations each. However this doesnt mean that their Best Picture trophy is already secured. A number of great films trail behind and might surprise enthusiasts. Well, let us discuss which film out-stands the rest.

The Artist

Director Michel Hazanavicius makes the classic fresh with this silent film about films. Without scripts, this movie focuses on acting, production design and othe aesthtics of film-making. Critics love it just because it's unorthodox. In this age of 3D films, a silent film shot purely as an old movie winning a Best Picture would be almost like the movie itself, dramatic.

The Descendants

Forget about all the George Clooney movies you've previously seen, The Descendants is what Empire Magazine referred to as his career performance. He plays an Aloha-shirt-wearing dad who has to try to keep his head above water to keep his family from sinking. This family drama contrasts its beautiful and sunny setting, the island of Hawaii. The currency that will sell this film aside from George Clooney is the emotions it makes audience feel. You know a film is good when you laugh and cry along with its character.

Drive

Ryan Gosling makes men fall in love with him in his most bad ass role so far. He plays a driver-for-movies during the day and driver-for-outlaws by night. Although this film has all the makings of a great movie (great cast performance, directing, action sequence, drama) it might not meet the critics Best Picture tastes. Anyway there is still a Best Action Movie category.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

This movie is indeed extremely loud and incredibly close. Extremely loud emotions forced to the audience. Incredibly close to winning the Oscar (and incredibly close shots too). It stars young Thomas Horn who plays a kid who embarked on a journey to get close to his father, played by Tom Hanks, who was killed during 9/11. Tom Hanks in this film is amazing, that's a given. However, the surprise performance in this movie is Sandra Bullock, who plays the mother. Some says that it is an “Oscar bait' with all the obvious strong emotions that would surely jerk the tears of the viewers. This film received various reactions but all the same, it looks great and is moving.

The Help

What other kind of movies could make it to the award shows than a character based period piece? The Help is set on 1960' Jackson, Misisipi; the height of racial discrimination. Emma Stone plays a writer who befriends black women who served as maids for the white people and seeing these women abused, she tried to make a change and somehow became their voice. Thus the tagline, “change starts with a whisper”. The strong points of this movie are the compelling character, powerful story and the theme. They'll surely walk away with any costume related award and who knows, maybe the Best Picture too.

Hugo

It has been established with his previous films, Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest filmmakers ever. And Hugo is his current 3D masterpiece. People(including critics) loved this work of art because it is well written, well acted and of course well directed. This film is magic that would take you to back to your dreams as a child. It is not impossible for this movie to wave its wand and wow the critics with wonder.

Midnight in Paris

Owen Wilson gives a surprising performance as a quirky man who is transported to the 20's during the stroke of midnight and there he meets great artists. Woody Allen is a legendary writer, and this movie is a treat. It is an entertaining and thought provoking romantic comedy set in obviously, the lovely city of Paris. The screenplay is a huge attraction to this film along with the good performances. It is not impossible for critics to fall in love with it too.

Moneyball

Aaron Sorkin is an awesome writer and it has been proven that critics love his work. That alone is a hope that awards will come rolling there way. Moneyball is a sports story but somehow its not really a sports story. You've seen baseball movies before but this one is different. And this one has Brad Pitt on it. And Jonah Hill taking a time out of his funny roles. This movie received good reviews from both sports fan and not but will it win the votes of the critics?

The Tree of Life

Terrence Malick is well known for his unconventional film making. His films, you are not watching, you are actually pondering over them. The Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, if these three people involved wouldnt make this movie worth any award show nod, then what else? This film is more of a slideshow of the stafes of life presented in an almost hard to understand way. Yes, because it is a Terrence Malick.

War Horse

Are you a fan of war movies? Are you a fan of animals? Are you a fan of drama? Well Steven Spielberg put them all together in one great film. He ended up giving the audience a good story, well presented characters, a lovable horse and an even more lovable hero. He can move you with the stunning shots. He can entertain you with good sequencing. He can do a great movie. Afdter all, he is Steven Spielberg.

On the matter of which of the best, is the best, we will leave that up to you. We all have our own taste in movies. However, Hugo might be the big winner. We'll see when the 17th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards airs on January 12, 2012 on vH1.

39th International Emmy Awards

Last November 14th, 2011 - The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that actor, producer & director, Jason Priestley for the second consecutive year will host the 39th International Emmy Awards, together with the help of international celebrity presenters. The annual award gala will takes place Monday, November 21st at the Hilton New York.

CANNES, Brazil's TV Globo was leading the number of nominations for the 39th Intl. Emmy Awards, as it did last year.They will compete for arts performance with "All My Life: Adoniran Barbosa"; for performance, with Fabio Assuncao ("Songs of Betrayal"); for comedy, with "Breaking Up,"for telenovela, with “Destiny River” and for drama, with "Under the Law."

Nominations span a record of 20 countries: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, The Philippines, and The United Kingdom, The competition has three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from over 800 judges in 67 different countries.“The International Emmy Awards is a tough competition with over 1000 entries from 61 countries, this year.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The upcoming American Music Awards (AMAs) will air live on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 8 p.m, ET/PT on ABC. Everyone are excited to witness who will win home most of this years AMAs awards.

Much awaited are the list of Artists that will be performing on stage at this year's American Music Awards. So far Miss Universe 2011 had the highest number of countries participating, with eighty-nine countries sending their representatives. This has surpassed the record achieved last 2006, when eighty-six countries participated in the pageant. Which country will achieve the honor and glory of having the world’s most beautiful remains to be seen, so the competition will be intense.

The contest began last 1952, when the contest was founded by the Pacific Mills clothing company. Later on it was acquired by Kayser-Roth, and then by Gulf and Western Industries. In 1996, Donald Trump acquired the organization. Two years later, he had the name changed from Miss Universe, Inc. to Miss Universe Organization. Trump also brought in a new team of professional, headed by the pageant’s CEO, Molly Miles, and its president Maureen Reidy. Part of the pageant’s reinvention is the use of the slogan “Reinvented for Today” for all its promotions. Currently, the pageant’s president is Paula Shugart. The organization also sells television rights of the pageant to television companies all over the world.

Candidates for the pageant are usually selected through national pageants held in their respective countries, although that is not the norm. In other countries, a candidate can be selected through a “casting call” organized by a modeling agency. Of course, the Miss Universe Organization discourages such practice, as the more traditional approach of a national competition is more apt for the international event. Still, some factors, like political unrest, conflict of schedules, among other things will result to a country designating a young woman to become their representative.

The Miss Universe event, as said by its organizers, is not just a beauty pageant. Beauty is not the only requirement for women who wish to become the next Miss Universe. They must be intelligent, well-mannered, as well as cultured. They must also be able to represent the spirit of their respective countries. Oftentimes, candidates who fail the reach the crown are those who are unable to answer the final question given near the end of event.

Who will be the crowned as the fairest of them all? That remains to be seen on September 12 coronation night. Still, only one thing is for sure: this will be one unforgettable night for the whole world.

The awards have become a tradition over the years, honoring the best and the hottest stars and celebrities that has graced the music video scene. Some of the biggest names who have been to this occasion are Madonna, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.

Last year’s VMA was full of star-power and highlighted by performances by Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Eminem and Rihanna, and other music performers (not to mention that meat dress that Lady Gaga wore on that night). The red carpet will surely shine with the stars that will be walking on it, so be ready to be dazzled and razzled by their appearance. Teens Choice Awards is a an annual awards event hosted by Nickolodeon. Teen Choice 2011 Live Stream is airing live on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at 8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. This years host is Kaley Couco of The Big Bang Theory with scheduled performances from OneRepublic, Selena Gomez and The Set and other
nominees.

The 2011 Teen Choice Awards made a statement that The Twilight fever is definitely not going down yet. Eclipse bagged twelve nominations including Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy and four major categories. It is almost like the previous two years, despite the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. They even add "Choice Vampire" category and nominees are Robert Pattinson, Nina Dobrev, Alexander Skarsgård, Nikki Reed, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

The first wave and the second wave of categories and nominees were released and voting online is still open at teenchoiceawards.com. Voting is strictly for teens aged 13-19. Performances from OneRepublic, Selena Gomez and The Scene are all set to rock the stage. Scheduled appearance of Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Chris Hemsworth et al will surely add more anticipation to in the Red Carpet and center stage.
